I, Kayla Percival, a Master of Audiology candidate at the University of KwaZulu‑Natal, invite eligible lecturers to participate in my research study titled: Lecturers’ Use of Differentiated Instruction and Universal Design for Learning with University Students Who Are Deaf or Hard‑of‑Hearing.
This study aims to explore how lecturers apply inclusive teaching strategies, such as Differentiated Instruction (DI) and Universal Design for Learning (UDL), when teaching students who are Deaf or Hard‑of‑Hearing. The findings may help strengthen inclusive teaching practices within higher education. The study has received ethical clearance (Ref: HSSREC/00010683/2026) and gatekeeper permission from the Office of the Registrar, with both approval letters attached.
To participate, lecturers must be employed at UKZN on a full‑time or part‑time basis, have at least one year of university‑level teaching experience, and have taught or currently teach students who are Deaf or Hard‑of‑Hearing. Participation involves one online interview conducted via Microsoft Teams or Zoom, lasting approximately 60–90 minutes, scheduled at a time convenient for the lecturer.
All responses will remain strictly confidential and anonymous, and participation is entirely voluntary with no negative consequences for choosing not to take part. All data will be securely stored in a locked cabinet within the Department of Audiology for five years and will be permanently destroyed thereafter, including all recordings.
For more information or to express interest in participating, please feel free to contact me.
Thank you sincerely for considering participation in this study. Your contribution is greatly appreciated.
Warms regards,
