In a manner of speaking yes. However you will not get the entire notice delivered to you in your email, instead you will get a daily digest which will list the subject of the notices, a short summary of each notice and hyperlinks that will take you to that notice on the web.
Anybody can access the notice system to view notices, however you will need to login in order to place a notice.
The Notice System can be accessed either from the link found under the "Staff" link of the UKZN website http://www.ukzn.ac.za, the "Resources" menu of the UKZN Innerweb http://innerweb.ukzn.ac.za OR directly at http://notices.ukzn.ac.za. Upon entering the Notice System, login to the notice system by clicking on "Login to place your notice". Once you have logged in you will see a "ADD NOTICE" link. Selecting this link opens up a window where you can place notices.
No, this is a moderated notice system that "at the present time" does not cater for private notices and adverts.
The filters are designed to allow you to selectively view notices that are destined for a campus area, ie "Howard College staff", as apposed to everyone. (See question 9)
You have to be logged in in order for the system to recognize you so that you can place notices. If you are just reading notices you do not need to login.
An AD (Active Directory Services) name is your unique identifier that the network recognizes you by. Using this the system can identify you and automatically gest your details such as first name, surname and email address.
At present you can send suggestions and constructive critique to govenderlog@ukzn.ac.za or ramkissoonb@ukzn.ac.za
A notice can be sent to the staff and students of all five campuses.
The Digest Notice is sent out every morning of the working week at 10h00. Notices placed on the last working day of the week (in most instances on a Friday) will go out at 10:00 AM on the next working day (in most instances on a Monday).
The search is based on a full text indes of the notice body field and and the subject field. Search for an absolute string by enclosing it in quotes. The string "year end" will return any notice that contains the string "year end", while simply entering the two words (year end) will return all notices that contains the word "year" and the word "end". The search will search the entire notice database.
Once you have logged in to the Notice System you will see a menu item under the grid view labeled "Views" which indicates the number of hits, or you can alternatively select "My Notice" menu item. Selecting this link will allow you to view the history of the notices that you have submitted, including the number of times the notice has been read.
Login to the notice system and select the "My Notice" link. You will be able to click on the link of any notice that has not been moderated and edit it.
All rejected notices have a moderator’s comment. In order to review the comment you will have to login to the Notice System, click on "My Notices" and click on the Edit link next to the relevant notice.
