Invitation to two presentations relevant to biological research, on CITES & BABS

1.  CITES implementation in South Africa    

2.  Legislative framework regulating Bioprospecting, Access and Benefit Sharing (BABS) in South Africa.

Presenters are from the Pretoria offices of Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the   Environment (DFFE).    A Question & Answer opportunity is included.

 Aimed at:

 ¨ Researchers working with CITES-listed species (plant / animal, living or not);

 ¨ Museum and Herbarium workers with CITES species in collections;

 ¨ Researchers studying Biological Organisms for:

    Medicinal & Chemical  properties, Traditional use,

    Ethnobotany & Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS) 

 ... even if not intended for commercial development.

 BABS legislation is applied more widely than most researchers realise.  Please use this opportunity to ensure that your research is lawful.

Will I still be able to read my Notices from within my email?

In a manner of speaking yes. However you will not get the entire notice delivered to you in your email, instead you will get a daily digest which will list the subject of the notices, a short summary of each notice and hyperlinks that will take you to that notice on the web.

2. Who has access to notices?


Anybody can access the notice system, however you will not be able to place notices from off-campus.
