article for Volume 9 of Skills@Work: Theory and Practice.

This independent, interdisciplinary journal is dedicated to skills development; vocational education and

are important fields of research and knowledge in Southern Africa, given their potential to contribute to
economic growth and development.  Skills@Work aims to provide a forum for the publishing of scholarly
articles and case studies that are of interest and relevance to both researchers and practitioners.  A
further goal is to stimulate debate and enquiry and to provide staff, students and researchers in
academic institutions and research centres with resources for learning, teaching and further research.
Although the focus is primarily on South Africa, regional and international perspectives are also
encouraged.  The journal is fully refereed: each submission undergoes a double blind peer review
process.  Skills@Work is supported by an international Editorial Advisory Board as well as by a panel of
Consultant Reviewers.  Currently, one volume of the journal is published per year.  Articles are indexed in
both SABINET and WorldCat.
