The Thermodynamics Research Unit is one of the
largest and most productive research groups in the School of Engineering, undertaking
research in the area of chemical thermodynamics, separation technology,
chemical process design and optimisation.
The incumbents will:
·
work closely with the senior researchers in the
Thermodynamics Research Unit to provide research assistance on various projects
and also undertake administrative tasks;
·
undertake experimental measurements in chemical
thermodynamics. These will cover:
o high-low
pressure vapour-liquid equilibrium data;
o operation of
a supercritical unit;
o operation of
a refrigerant test unit and modifications thereof,
o modifications
and commissioning of new high pressure phase equilibrium equipment,
o phase
equilibrium data modelling and process simulations, and,

assist with procurement of chemicals and equipment for
the Unit;
·
assist with general housekeeping of the research
laboratories.
Minimum
Requirements:
·
MSc. Eng. or M. Eng. (Chemical Engineering) or
equivalent
·
Minimum of 2 years’ experience in research methods
and using research databases.
·
Experience in:
- Commissioning and operation of high pressure
equipment for the measurement of phase equilibrium data
- Modelling and data correlation of phase
equilibrium data, and
- Chemical process simulation design using
ASPEN Plus.
·
Knowledge of experimental design and experimental
techniques in chemical thermodynamics.
·
Experience with data collection and analysis.
·
A high level of competency in the use MS-Office
software, particularly Word and Excel
