You are invited to participate in a survey
conducted by Professor Venitha Pillay (Unisa: pillav2@unisa.ac.za or venithapillay@gmail.com or 0735440780 ) And Dr Ke Yu (HSRC: kyu@hsrc.ac.za). This survey will form part of a
larger ongoing study on women in higher education. The study has been funded by
the National Research Foundation and is led by Professor Pillay.
You were selected to participate in this survey
because you are a woman academic. By
completing this survey, you agree that the information you provide may be used
for research purposes, including dissemination through peer-reviewed
publications and conference proceedings.
It is anticipated that the information we gain from
this survey will help us to

the factors that led you an academic profession

Understand
how being a woman shapes your research

Determine
the key institutional, personal and social and cultural challenges you face as
an academic

the key support mechanisms (institutional, personal and social and cultural)
that work for you
You are, however, under no obligation to complete
the survey and you can withdraw from the study prior to submitting the
survey. The survey is developed to be
anonymous, meaning that we will have no way of connecting the information that
you provide to you. Consequently, you will not be able to withdraw from the
study once you have clicked the send button based on the anonymous nature of
the survey. No information that could potentially identify you is requested.
If you choose to participate in this survey it will
take up no more than 30 minutes of
your time. You may not benefit from your participation as an individual,
however, it is envisioned that the findings of this study may be of value to
all women academics and to the country’s agenda to improve the situation, work
experience and numbers of women academics in the higher education system.
We do not foresee that you will experience any
negative consequences by completing the survey. We undertake to keep any
information provided herein confidential, not to let it out of our possession
and to report on the findings from the perspective of the participating group
and not from the perspective of an individual.
The records will be kept for five years for audit
purposes where after it will be permanently destroyed. Hard copies will be shredded and electronic versions
will be permanently deleted from the hard drive of the computer. You
will not be reimbursed or receive any incentives for your participation in the
survey.
The research was reviewed
and approved by the Research Ethics Committee at the Unisa. Should you have any questions regarding the ethical aspects of the
study, you can contact the chairperson of the Research Ethics Committee, Prof M
Claassens at mcdtc@netactive.co.za.
We thank you for

academics irrespective of rank or years of experience.

no correct or incorrect responses. The questionnaire is divided into sections
each with a sub-title. Instructions on how to complete the questionnaire appear
