Dear Postgraduate Student (or recently graduated student)
As part of the Enabling Quality Postgraduate Education (EQPE) project we are conducting a survey to establish a baseline of current practices in postgraduate education across South Africa, to get an understanding of how institutions approach recruitment & selection, supervision, support for postgraduate students, and examination.
We would be most grateful if you could take 15-20 minutes to complete the survey, based on your experience as a postgraduate student. You can find the survey here: https://tinyurl.com/pgpracs
Responses will be anonymous and will not capture names of institutions. This research project has ethical approval under Rhodes University (ethical clearance number 2026-8358-10909). The survey is open to all postgraduate students at any university or higher education institution in South Africa, whether you are currently registered or have recently graduated.
We would be most grateful to receive responses by 7 August 2026.
This study will contribute to a greater understanding of postgraduate practices within South African universities and will result in sharing of information about effective practices – towards improvements in the quality of postgraduate education on a national level. The research results of this project will be published in the form of a report which will be shared with DVCs: Research, Directors of Postgraduate Studies, and Faculty Deans in all universities, participants in the EQPE project, as well as other interested parties.
Please see the attached letter and poster for more details. For queries, please contact shiloh.marsh@ru.ac.za.
Looking forward to your responses.
Kind regards,
Professor Lynette Louw
