The discipline of Drama and Performance Studies in the School of Arts offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in three major streams: Theatre Studies, Dance Studies, and Applied Theatre Studies. All modules involve practical components. 

We invite applications for two contract lecturer positions in our PIETERMARITZBURG campus to teach in Semester 2, 2026 (15 July 2026 – 15 December 2026). The successful candidates will be responsible for teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, primarily in the Theatre Studies stream. They would be expected to undertake consultations with students and contribute to the administrative tasks within the discipline. All teaching will be done face-to-face.

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • A Master’s degree in Drama and Performance Studies.
  • A least one semester of successful teaching experience in the theory and practice of the discipline.
  • The candidate should be able to prove a knowledge of Theatre studies.

REMUNERATION: The remuneration package offered will be dependent on the qualifications of the successful applicant, in line with UKZN remuneration for ad hoc lecturer level. Rates of pay will be per university fixed-term rates and official module (Handbook) approved hours for these academic duties.
