The successful candidate will be appointed to lecture/teach Ethics. The Cluster of Philosophy & Ethics Studies, in the School of Arts, University of KwaZulu-Natal, prides itself in the high quality of its research and teaching. The Cluster seeks to appoint one full-time fixed-term contract lecturer at the Pietermaritzburg Campus that will complement or enhance the research and teaching strengths of the Cluster. Appointees are expected to teach Ethics Studies modules at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, as well as actively engage in research. Modules to be taught may include: Normative and Applied Ethics. In addition, the appointee is expected to participate in administration in the discipline(s) and school, and be willing to take on leadership responsibilities where applicable.

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • A PhD in the relevant discipline (Philosophy / Ethics Studies), although advanced PhD candidates will be considered.
  • An active research programme in Philosophy / Ethics Studies.
  • University lecturing experience in Philosophy / Ethics Studies.
  • Teaching competence in at least two of the following relevant areas: Theoretical Ethics, Applied Ethics, African Ethics, Professional Ethics.  
  • A track record in academic administration and / or leadership appropriate at the level of Lecturer.

The short-listed candidate may be required to make a 20-minute presentation on a topic to be provided by the School.

 

REMUNERATION: The remuneration package offered will be dependent on the qualifications and/or experience of the successful applicant, in line with UKZN remuneration for ad hoc lecturer level. Rates of pay will be per University fixed-term rates and official module (Handbook) approved hours for these academic duties.
