The UKZN Law Clinic has been providing free legal services to indigent communities and training law students and candidate attorneys since 1973. Its mission is to make a meaningful impact in areas of law aimed at alleviating poverty and addressing discrimination. The School now seeks to appoint suitably qualified Candidate Attorneys / Candidate Legal Practitioners.

Requirements:

·       Completion of an LLB degree.

·       Completed structured course work of not less than 400 notional hours as per the Legal Practice Act of 2014 because applying for a one-year fixed term contract.

CLOSING DATE FOR APPLICATIONS IS THURSDAY, 23 OCTOBER 2025.

Applicants must submit a cover letter highlighting their experience with respect to the minimum requirements listed above and a Curriculum Vitae to Dr Dave Holness. holness@ukzn.ac.za

Communication will be limited to short-listed candidates, who may be required to undergo a skills test.

Note: The Law Clinic does not allow candidate attorneys to still be studying for any qualification (like an LLM), or to be studying part-time (i.e. in the evenings) at the School for Legal Practice or its equivalent training under the Legal Practice Act of 2014 as a means to reduce one’s vocational training to 1 year.

The College reserves the right not to make any appointments. The successful applicant/s may not hold dual/ concurrent appointments in other Colleges, Schools or Units at UKZN.

In a manner of speaking yes. However you will not get the entire notice delivered to you in your email, instead you will get a daily digest which will list the subject of the notices, a short summary of each notice and hyperlinks that will take you to that notice on the web.
