In celebration of Women’s Month, the second Vocal Showcase for this year will feature voice students from the Jazz and Popular Music programmes in the Music Discipline at UKZN. Proudly presenting a selection of songs by South African women composers, the evening will include a broad range of South African repertoire and will include compositions by Zawadi, Zoe Modiga, Nomfundo Xaluva, Busi Mhlongo and Thandi Ntuli to name just a few. The concert will also feature a guest performance by Womuzo, an all-female band from the Ukusa Arts Programme. Song choices include ‘Ngimuhle’, ‘What Is Wrong With Groovin’, ‘Rainbow’, ‘A Cry, A Smile, A Dance and ‘Wakrazulwa' so there’ll be something for everyone!
Join us as we celebrate the beautiful work of just a few South African women composers sung by jazz and pop voice students under the direction of Debbie Mari, Mbuso Nxumalo and Slindo Zondo.
The singers will be joined by fellow instrumentalists in the jazz studies programme. The concert features Amahle Khumalo, Blessing Buthelezi, Andiswa Makhoba, Andisa Ngubo, Thembelihle Mkhize, Blessing Mkila, Sindiswa Motha, Zibusiso Mathe, Thabiso Njoko, Zibuyile Shabane, Thembalethu Bhengu and Ntokozo Kunene.
