REMINDER: ANNUAL LEAVE
FORFEITURE FOR 2024 IN 2025
Dear Staff
The annual
leave cycle at the University is from 1 January to 31 December. Staff
appointed on 2018 Conditions of Service (CoS) earn annual leave credits for
the leave cycle in advance in January each year. Staff appointed
on fixed term contracts earn annual leave credits on a monthly basis in
arrears.

Aligned to the 2018 CoS, the
University allows for staff to utilise their annual leave credits from the
previous year’s leave cycle until the end of November in the following
year. Staff appointed on the 2018 CoS
must take all 2024 annual leave days that
have been carried over to 2025 by 30 November 2025, failing which it will be forfeited on 1 December 2025. This leave must be applied for and
approved by 30 November 2025. Furthermore, 2024 leave days cannot be
captured/planned to be taken beyond 1 December 2025 as these days will be
deducted/debited from the 2025 leave entitlement.

Aligned to the Basic Conditions
of Employment Act (BCEA), staff appointed on fixed term contracts have until
the end of June annually to utilise their annual leave credits from the
previous year’s leave cycle. Staff appointed
on fixed term conditions of service must take
all 2024 leave days that have been carried over to 2025 by 30 June 2025,
failing which it will be forfeited on 1 July 2025. This leave must be applied for and
approved by 30 June 2025. Furthermore, 2024 leave days cannot be
captured/planned to be taken beyond 1 July 2025 as these days will be
deducted/debited from the 2025 leave entitlement.
It is
important to note that any ‘unapproved leave’ will be included as leave not
taken and will be forfeited. Therefore,
both the staff member and line manager must ensure that the leave is captured
and approved before the forfeiture dates mentioned above.
We
further encourage you to please ensure you plan and schedule your leave
accordingly with your Line Manager, taking into consideration business
operations as well.

abaqashwe ngaphansi Kwezimo Zokwenza Umsebenzi zangonyaka wezi-2018 kufanele bathathe izinsuku zabo zelivu zangonyaka
wezi-2024 ezidlulele onyakeni wezi-2025 kungakafiki umhla wama-30 kuLwezi
wezi-2025, uma behluleka ukwenza lokhu bazolahlekelwa yilezi zinsuku ngomhla
lu-1 kuZibandlela wezi-2025. Le livu kufanele ifakelwe izicelo futhi
igunyazwe kungakafiki umhla wama-30 kuLwezi wezi-2025. Futhi, izinsuku
zelivu zangonyaka wezi-2024 azikwazi ukuba

esinqunyiwe banikwa isikjhathi esiphela ekupheleni kukaNhlangulana njalo
ngonyaka ukuze basebenzise izinsuku zabo zelivu zangomjikelezo wangonyaka
owedlule. Abasebenzi abaqashwe ngaphansi kwezimo zokwenza umsebenzi
zabanezinkontileka ezinqunyiwe kufanele bathathe zonke izinsuku zabo zelivu
zangonyaka wezi-2024 ezidlulele kunyaka wezi-2025 kungakadluli umhla wama-30
kuNhlangulana wezi-2025, uma behluleka ukwenza lokhu bazolahlekelwa yilezi
zinsuku ngomhla lu-1 kuNtulikazi wezi-2025. Le livu kufanele ifakelwe
izicelo futhi igunyazwe kungakafiki umhla wama-30 kuNhlangulana wezi-2025.
Futhi, izinsuku zelivu zangonyaka wezi-2024 azikwazi ukuba zithathwe uma
sekudlule umhla lu-1 kuNtulikazi wezi-2025 ngoba lezi zinsuku azikwazi ukuthi
ziqoshwe/zihlelelwe ukuthathwa uma sekudlule umhla lu-1 kuNtulikazi wezi-2025
ngoba lezi zinsuku zizosuswa/zizothathwa kwezangonyaka wezi-2025.
Kubalulekile
ukuqaphela ukuthi “ilivu engagunyaziwe” izoba yingxenye yelivu engathathwanga
futhi ilahleke. Ngakho-ke abasebenzi kanye nabaphathi babo kufanele baqinisekise
ukuthi le livu iyaqoshwa futhi igunyazwe ngaphambi kokuba kufike izinsuku
ezibalulwe ngenhla.
Sikhuthaza
abasebenzi ukuba baqinisekise ukuthi bahlela futhi bafaka izicelo zelivu yabo
ngendlela efanele ngokubambisana nabaPhathi babo, ngokubheka ukuthi izimo
zokwenza umsebenzi zimi kanjani.
Uma
udinga okunye ukucaciseleka ngalolu daba, ungaxhumana noMeluleki
Kwezabasebenzi oqondene nawe.
Sifisa ukuthatha leli thuba ukuba sinibonge ngokuqonda kwenu ngalolu
daba futhi sinifisela unyaka wezi-2025 oyimpumelelo.
