Prepare to be captivated as SAMA award-winning artist Pilani Bubu graces the stage of The UKZN Jazz Centre on 16 April 2025 at 17:30, presenting "#KINFOLK," a profound musical experience.

This extraordinary performance will showcase a rich repertoire drawn from her acclaimed albums: Folklore Chapter 1, Folklore Chapter 2: Ekuseni, and her latest release, Nay'Indaba. Audiences will be immersed in a tapestry of nostalgic African folk tales, ancient wisdom, and powerful reflections on South Africa's history and freedom.

Pilani's Folklore Chapter 1 (2019) is a celebrated suite of stories that resonated deeply with listeners, earning her a SAMA award. In Folklore Chapter 2: Ekuseni (2023), she delves deeper, sharing intimate narratives of her ancestors and their spiritual traditions, conjuring melodies that transport listeners to the ethereal realms of African spirituality.

Her most recent album, Nay’Indaba, a collaboration with French trans-oriental jazz-rock band Marthe, is a sonic odyssey that contemplates 30 years of South African freedom through the lens of strong women. The album confronts complex historical and social issues while offering a message of hope and resilience in the face of inequality, youth unemployment, and poverty.

Accompanying Pilani on stage will be a stellar band featuring:  Solomon Willy - Guitar, Sean Sanby – Bass, Sbu Zondi - Drums  and Ntokozo Nsibande - Trumpet

As the founder of the Folklore Community, Pilani introduces the 2025 Folklore Festival theme, #KINFOLK: KINFOLK’s 2025 Manifesto celebrates the profound connections found in shared understanding and cultural inheritance, emphasizing the power of kindred spirits coming together to enrich collective consciousness.

"In the delicate synchronicities of human connection, we find our #KINFOLK not merely through bloodlines, but through the resonant frequencies of shared understanding. Kindred spirits emerge like starlight through the darkness, drawn together by an ineffable recognition of mutual truth. We gather in sacred spaces to weave together our cultural inheritances & gifts, like tributary streams joining a mighty river, watering our collective consciousness," says Pilani Bubu.
