This technical support role involves designing,
manufacturing, and constructing equipment and apparatuses for Undergraduate
students, Postgraduate students, and Academic staff. The position requires
proficiency in producing complex components using various workshop machinery
such as Lathes, Milling Machines, sheet metal equipment, welding equipment, and
various hand tools. Additionally, the incumbent will be responsible for minor
maintenance of workshop equipment and using workshop machinery and various hand
tools with the ability to cut threads and work to fine tolerances on a lathe.
Furthermore, s/he will provide expertise and advice to
both staff and students, including recommending appropriate materials for
project manufacturing and assisting with sourcing quotations. S/he must have
knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
The incumbent with also fulfil any other reasonable duties and
responsibilities as determined by management with regard to the operational
needs of the School.
The incumbent will report to the Principal Technician.

Matric
plus NTC4 and a three (3) year relevant recognized Trade qualification in one
of the following areas of expertise: (Fitting and Turning; Tool making or
Millwright), or a three (3) year relevant qualification.

Four (4)
years Trade/Artisan experience of which two (2) years must be in 2 types of
welding, and two (2) years in programming and operating CNC machinery such as
CNC Lathes, and CNC Milling machines.

A
valid unendorsed driver’s license.
Short-listed candidates will be required to undergo a
skills test.
