FUNDING COMMUNIQUÉ
IMPORTANT
UPDATES PERTAINING TO STUDENTS FUNDED BY NSFAS
Dear Staff and Students
Please take note of
the following updates pertaining to students funded by NSFAS.
To date, the university has received ongoing NSFAS
funded lists which have all been processed by Student Funding and financial
clearance granted to students awarded NSFAS Provisional Funding.
·
All students who have been included on these NSFAS
funded lists would have received sms confirmation advising of their funding status
and that NSFAS Bursary funding is strictly for registration for an under
graduate degree and may not be used to register for Post Graduate studies.
PROGRESS OF NSFAS APPEALS
·
Students who are awaiting NSFAS funding decisions due
to NSFAS processing their appeals must track the progress of their funding
status on their myNSFAS Profile. Should
their appeal be successful they should follow up with their Financial Aid
Advisor on their campus of registration regarding the allocation of their
NSFAS funding on the ITS system and the processing of their allowances, should
not have done so already.
The University has been advised by NSFAS that
Semester 1 allowances (Cycles 1 to 5) will be disbursed by the University. NSFAS
has advised the allowances have been adjusted as follows for 2025:
Book Allowance – R5 678,00
Living (Meal) Allowance – R17 160,00
Travel Allowance – R8 190,00 (only for students
who live at home)
·
Student Funding will process arrears allowances
payments together with the cycle 3 allowance payments. These will be
transferred to students at the beginning of April when cycle 3 payments are
released.
·
Use the following link to access the allowance
payments dates https://studentfunding.ukzn.ac.za/allowance-payments-dates-for-nsfas-students/
This list of payment dates is available for download
from the Student Funding website:
https://studentfunding.ukzn.ac.za
·
Note that for the second semester NSFAS will take
over allowance payments and NSFAS will communicate the dates on which they
will payout second semester allowances for NSFAS/DHET Bursary students. The UKZN allowance payments dates for the
second semester are applicable to NSFAS Prefunder students such as Funza
Lushaka and other NSFAS Prefunders.
SUBMISSION OF
BANKING DETAILS TO UKZN
·
In order to receive allowance payments, all students
who will be funded by NSFAS for the first time in 2025 must complete a
banking details form (Link
to banking details form)
·
The
completed form together with all the required supporting
documentation must be submitted to Student Fees using Fresh Desk (Link to Fresh Desk Portal):
Click on “Submit a ticket” and Select “Student Fees” from the drop down.
Select “Submission of Bank Detail Forms” from the drop down menu under Query
Type – Query Item 1.
·
Please be advised that allowances can only be paid to bank accounts
that are in the name of the student and not third parties.
NSFAS PRIVATE ACCOMMODATION PORTAL
·
All
payments for private accommodation will be done by NSFAS and will be paid
directly to landlords.
