The Centre for Jazz and Popular Music is excited to present renowned pianist, producer, and UKZN Jazz alumnus Siyanqoba Mthethwa on Wednesday, 23 October 2024, at 17:30.

Originally from Esikhawini, KwaZulu-Natal, Siyanqoba has collaborated with an impressive roster of artists, including Ernie Smith, Swazi Dlamini, Tshepo Mngoma, Siphokazi, Nokukhanya Dlamini, Judith Sephuma, Ntokozo Mbambo, Sibongile Khumalo, and Oliver Mtukudzi, among others. His journey in the music industry also encompasses work with various television shows. One of his career highlights is him serving as the music director of the celebrated gospel ensemble Joyous Celebration, for over a decade.

Following the success of his debut album “Coming Out” (2022), Mthethwa’s sophomore project “Inevitable” delves deeper into his unique fusion of gospel and jazz. “Inevitable” explores the theme of overcoming life’s hurdles to reach one’s ultimate purpose. This concert will showcase both his acclaimed works and some exciting new material.

Siyanqoba’s artistry shines through his innovative sound production. The new album features a range of talented vocalists, including Dudu Makhoba, Xolani Sithole, and  Unathi Mzekeli and more. Joining Siyanqoba on stage will be Sbu Zondi on drums, Dalisu Ndlazi on bass, Siyanda Zulu on flugelhorn, Siyalo Zulu on trombone, and Thabo Sikhakhane on trumpet
