SKYJACK returns to UKZN Centre for Jazz and Popular Music to launch their third studio album Light Cycle  08 May 17:30.

 

The Centre for Jazz and Popular Music proudly presents a double bill performance by SKYJACK and A Million O Clock, Wednesday 08 May 2024 at 17:30.

 

SKYJACK returns to South Africa to launch their third studio album Light Cycle. SKYJACK consists of heavyweight South African jazz trio meets a pair of Swiss horn masters. Featuring the rhythm section of Kyle Shepherd, Shane Cooper and Jonno Sweetman; with horns Marc Stucki and Andreas Tschopp.

Over the course of a decade, this all-star quintet has forged a reputation as an innovative and adventurous force in contemporary African and European jazz. Combining deep grooves with thrilling rides and avant-garde experimentation, Skyjack is a powerhouse live band.

They will share the bill with another Swiss / South African collab project known as A Million O Clock.  Lead by Swiss saxophonist Benedikt Reising, with Rico Baumann on drums, and South Africans Yonela Mnana on piano, and Shane Cooper on bass.  The band is an ever-evolving sound and shape-shifting ensemble, sharing compositions that are both beautiful and groovy.
