Dear Staff and Students The University of Arkansas, Pine Bluff has an exciting in Residence Fullbright Scholarship, please note the closing date is the 15th May 2024 , CVs may be fowarded to fpsa@state.gov
The Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence program is a
unique initiative that is specifically driven by the goals of U.S. institutions
of higher education to enhance their internationalization efforts.
Through this program, institutions host a scholar from outside of the United
States for a semester or full academic year to teach courses, assist in
curriculum development, guest lecture, develop study abroad and exchange
partnerships, and engage with the campus and the local community. U.S.
institutions apply for a specific study field and can also nominate a scholar
as their preferred candidate. The Scholar must be proficient in English,
hold a minimum of a master’s degree, but a PhD is preferred, and have limited
experience living in the United States. Attached is a document with more
program information for interested candidates.
The University of Arkansas, Pine Bluff, is
seeking a scholar from South Africa who can creatively engage with students in
the classroom, linking themes associated with rights with those associated with
development. Located in the Deep South, more specifically, the Lower
Mississippi River Basin, where slavery and the plantation system established
the social and economic relationships that have substantially influenced local
and regional progress, the conceptual framework that governs the programs and
initiatives at the university are strongly influenced by ideas and perspectives
of civil rights activities and how they envisioned a just society.
Considering themes and dynamics in the struggle for
justice in the U.S. that resonate with the anti-apartheid experience, the
university is seeking a scholar who will be hosted for a full academic year and
would be expected to play an active role in campus life while viewing this
experience as an opportunity to advance personal and professional learning
objectives. The ideal candidate will have a background in Political Science,
Human Rights and/or International Development and will be expected to teach,
host experimental learning workshops for college/university students focusing
on topics such as leadership or asset-based community development. The
scholar would also collaborate with the minor degree in global studies and
facilitate global partnerships with institutions in their home country to
support education abroad and student internship opportunities. Note that
the scholar will be hosted during the 2025/2026 U.S. academic year.
