The Sub-Saharan African Network for TB/HIV Research Excellence (SANTHE) leads the field in HIV (particularly acute HIV), Tuberculosis infection, and associated morbidities research. We are seeking to recruit a highly motivated scientist to work under the supervision of Dr Paradise Madlala at the HIV Pathogenesis Programme (HPP) in Durban, South Africa, on viral determinants of HIV latency and reactivation in immune cell populations.
The successful candidate will be based at the Nelson R. Mandela School of Medicine at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), will receive a generous tax-free stipend, and will benefit from an integrated network of innovative international and local research collaborations. The candidate is expected to independently design appropriate controlled experiments, interpret and analyse data, prepare reports, write manuscripts, and present results at national and international meetings among other duties.
Eligibility criteria:
• A PhD in any of the following areas: microbiology, immunology, molecular biology, genetics, or any related field
• Evidence of research outputs such as peer-reviewed publications or conference presentations
• Excellent organisational, interpersonal, and oral and written communication skills
• Experience with tissue culture, flow cytometry, RNA processing, DNA cloning, genetic analysis or protein expression/purification and bioinformatics (advantageous)
• Self-directed, highly motivated, adaptable, and capable of interacting with persons of different cultures
