Developing a multimodal terminology guide on auditory processing disorders for diverse students
INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE IN A RESEARCH PROJECT: TO ALL 3RD AND FINAL YEAR STUDENTS REGISTERED IN AUDIOLOGY AT THE UNIVERSITY OF KWAZULU-NATAL
I, Dr Nasim Banu Khan, a lecturer in the Discipline of Audiology am conducting a study/project with 3rd and final year audiology students at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in 2026, titled: Developing a multimodal terminology guide on auditory processing disorders for diverse students in audiology.
This study aims to develop, pilot, and evaluate a multimodal terminology guide to clarify key concepts related to Auditory Processing Disorders (APD) for diverse audiology students. Many students struggle to understand APD due to complex academic language and limited accessible terminology guides (American Speech-Language-Hearing Association [ASHA], 2022).
The findings will help improve teaching and create a better learning environment for Audiology students in the future by making foundational APD knowledge more accessible and engaging. Participation in this study entails a survey and a 60-minute focus group discussion session. Refreshments will be provided, and participants will receive a small token of appreciation for their participation.
Your participation in this study/project is invaluable, and we guarantee the confidentiality and anonymity of all responses provided. Please note that participation is entirely voluntary, and opting out will not result in any consequences. The data collected will be securely stored in a locked cabinet within the university's Department of Audiology for five years, accessible only to the researchers and their supervisors. After this period, all data will be securely destroyed, including any recordings made during the interviews.
For further inquiries regarding the study or to express your interest in participating, please feel free to contact me.
Thank you immensely for considering participation in our study. Your contribution is greatly appreciated.
Warm regards,
Dr Nasim Banu Khan
