Music Unlocked Sessions presents a 6th edition with a twist
Print

Centre for Jazz and Popular Music and iSupport Creative Business in proud association with Casio have taken the initiative to marshal their resources by presenting a weekly concert, featuring 3 artists that will present a 20-minute set each. The 6th edition of the new online concert series will take place on Wednesday 13 May and features a line-up with a twist, since they feature artists outside of the jazz genre. This edition will feature Haylea Heyns, LoveChild and Acoustiq Assassins.

The Artists

Haylea Heyns is a singer, actress and songwriter from Durban. She studied a BA: Music & Drama Performance at UKZN (Howard College Campus), graduating Cum Laude, and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Copywriting at “The AAA School of Advertising”, where she developed her passion for creative writing. The performance  is a collection of some of Heyns’ favourite pop songs performed from the cosy corner of Heyns’ bedroom. She will be covering songs from artists such as Ed Sheeran, Bruno Mars, Train, and The Lumineers, and accompanying herself on acoustic guitar.

Bringing an offering of captivating melodies and soulful lyrics Lovechild's music, touches the listener at their very core, moving audiences both young and old. Her wholehearted unwavering belief in herself and her mission of music, drives every performance, allowing her listeners space in time to be inspired, and moved. Winner of a Standard Bank Ovation Award in 2017 Lovechild’s adventure continues, as she steadfastly follows her musical path and proves if you follow your heart, you will be heard. She performed at the 2018 Standard Bank Joy of Jazz stage where she got that opportunity by public vote and as well as being featured on SABC 2's Afro Cafe.

With the SA music scene being dominated by hip hop and house right now, Acoustiq Assassins pose as an image of a new revolution in the industry, the age of acoustic R&B and storytelling. If their latest release Partners In Crime (PIC) – featuring 2016 SA Idols winner, Noma Khumalo – is anything to go by, they are a breath of fresh air for those still longing for an easy Sunday morning, craving to love and be loved. Formed in 2014, the band hails from KZN, Pietermaritzburg and has already shared a stage with some of the biggest names in the country – including legendary jazz musician Sibongile KhumaloCassper NyovestNasty C and Zakes Bantwini to name a few. In 2017 they also co-hosted a sold-out show with Samthing Soweto at the Hexagon Theatre.

One of the things that set them apart is their minimalistic sound - using one or two guitars to leave room for the creative expression of their voices. Accompanied by their eclectic performances of music, poetry and dance as a tool to drive powerful messages of not only love, but social issues such as women abuse as depicted in this performance.

To watch the concert there is a minimum charge of R40 and tickets are available on Webtickets. The full contribution of the audience will go straight to the artists in an effort to support and sustain South Africa’s beloved musicians through this testing time
