Dear Alumni and Friends,

NOTICE OF THE DURBAN ALUMNI ASSOCIATION ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING AND A TALK ON FORDOUN HOTEL AND SPA - AN EVOLVING LIFE BY JON BATES AND DR ELLIOT NDLOVU

Fordoun Hotel and Spa is an oasis of pampered good health in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands. Fordoun is an internationally acclaimed destination set in fertile farmlands boasting spectacular views across rolling hills and pastured valleys towards the Drakensberg Mountains. It is situated in the green pastures of a successful Nottingham Road dairy farm, which has a history dating back to the 1800s. The original farm buildings have been painstakingly adapted into the atmospheric and gracious Fordoun Hotel and Spa, in a fusing of state-of-the-art leisure and spa facilities with the timeless tranquility of by-gone days.

Fordoun combines the attractions of an award winning upmarket boutique hotel and spa with a top class conference, wedding and event destination and a superior restaurant. Fordoun caters for resident guests of the hotel as well as day visitors during the week at the Spa.

Jon Bates is the founder and owner of Fordoun Hotel and Spa since his inheritance of the estate in 1994. He will be a Guest Speaker at the AGM and share the following:

A brief history on himself – pre 1994: from a failure at school to discovering himself as a businessman and leader. Post 1994: inheriting Fordoun farm; meeting Dr Elliot Ndlovu; Elliot’s prophecy; why he changed from dairy farming as the primary business to hospitality and a smaller farming business; how Elliot influenced his understanding of much in life – particularly from an African perspective; how a pencil (used as a positive self-perception aid) is important to personnel in their business and how he came to understand and act in regard to the environment, rural school learners and their farm labour families.

Dr Elliot Ndlovu is the on-site African traditional healer at Fordoun who is both an inyanga (medicinal healer) and sangoma (spiritual healer). He has a garden with over 120 different species of healing plants that he uses to create the Fordoun Spa product range. He also uses spiritual healing to give balance and healing to the hotel guests.

Join us for what promises to be a most inspiring and informative evening with wine, juice, snacks and good- company afterwards!
