Social Policy Programme 2019
In recent years, political
change in South Africa, as well as powerful global forces, have resulted in major
policy changes in virtually all spheres of the country’s social and economic
life. This process of transformation has
created a need for a considerable increase in personnel trained in the analysis
of social and economic issues and policies. The purpose of the Social Policy
Programme is to equip graduates and professionals with knowledge and skills
necessary for social policy analysis and development management. It is also aimed at those in responsible
positions in the public service, NGO’s and other development institutions that
are committed to meet the challenge of managing change in South Africa; in the
broader southern African region; and beyond.
The School of Social Sciences invites applications from
those who are in possession a honours degree from a recognised tertiary
institution for the masters by coursework programme in Social Policy in 2019. Applicants who possess a credit weighted
average of above 60 percent for their honours degrees will be considered. Those who possess a strong four year
(honours) degree may be considered for the masters by research programme. Those who do not possess a formal tertiary
qualification but who have demonstrable work experience may also qualify for
admission to the programme. A PhD
programme is also available for those who already possess a masters degree.
The modules which comprise the coursework component of
the masters programme are available for non-degree purposes. They can be taken as electives for other
masters programmes.
