Postdoctoral Fellowships, 2018

 

The School of Built Environment and Development Studies, University of KwaZulu-Natal, is pleased to announce Postdoctoral Scholarships for 2018. There are two Postdoctoral fellowships made available by the DST/NRF South African Research Chair in Economic Development, held by Prof Pranitha Maharaj. Postdoctoral fellows will work on research aligned with the focus of the Chair. The purpose of the Chair is to promote and undertake research on economic development. The scholarship consists of a stipend of R200 000 for a full academic year.

 

 

Economic Development Research Topics

The purpose of the Chair is to promote and undertake research on economic development. Proposals on the following topics are strongly recommended: population aging, migration and access to household resources by race and gender, the economics and demographics of family/childcare responsibilities in South Africa, marriage patterns, household composition and socio-economic status, and creating employment opportunities. Applications, which intend to use either or both qualitative and quantitative methodologies, are welcome.

 

Eligibility and Criteria:

·         A doctoral degree obtained in the last five years

·         Must agree to be based at UKZN for the duration of the scholarship

·         The successful incumbent will be expected to complete an employment form under Human Resources regulations for staff members. This will enable the incumbent to access facilities such as parking, personalised email address and receive their monthly payment timeously.

 

The application should consist of:

1.      Letter of Motivation;

2.      A full curriculum vitae, including a list of publications and all certificates

3.      A proposal for a postdoctoral research project. This proposal will be evaluated on the basis of peer review for its excellence, and should contain a clear plan for research dissemination and output. Postdoctoral scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis, taking into account the applicant’s academic achievements, as well as the quality of the proposed programme and its potential for enhancing general research activity of the DST/NRF South African Research Chair in Economic Development.

 

Required Outputs

 

The applicant will engage in postdoctoral research study under the supervision of the DST/NRF South African Research Chair in Economic Development. Renewal for the second year will depend on a satisfactory report from the scholar and supervisor and outputs.

Anybody can access the notice system, however you will not be able to place notices from off-campus.
