Extension Scholarships for Masters and Doctoral Students Call for 2018
Applicant Closing Date: 21 July 2017
This call is only for students who were funded by the NRF this year and will be in either 3rd year of masters in 2018 or 4th year of PHD in 2018. This is not for students who qualify for the renewal of their NRF scholarships. The Call for Renewal of the NRF scholarships will be open later on in the year.
The DST and NRF are pleased to announce a call for applications for the Extension Scholarships for Masters and Doctoral Students for 2018.
The funding programme aims to increase graduation and throughput rates for full-time masters and doctoral students in South Africa, by providing additional funding for six (6) or twelve (12) months.
Applicants must apply on the NRF Online Submission System at: https://nrfsubmission.nrf.ac.za and follow the application process set out in the attached framework document and funding guide. The application deadline is 21 July 2017 for funding in 2018.
Please refer to the framework document when completing the online application form at every step of the process.
Please note:
Institutional DAs must validate all applications no later than 11 August 2017. Institutions are required to set their own internal closing dates to enable validation by institutional DAs prior to submission to the NRF for review.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
The NRF will not consider any application that is incomplete. It is the students responsibility to upload all the necessary documentation, such as copy of ID, academic records and other documents that is required by the NRF. The NRF Call documents clearly states what attachments are required. The Scholarships office will unfortunately not be able to assist in uploading outstanding documentation as we don’t have the capacity or facility to do so and we have a very short deadline to validate the online applications for the various NRF calls.
NO HARDCOPIES ARE REQUIRED. UKZN DOES NOT HAVE AN INTERNAL CLOSING DATE
