The Centre for Jazz and Popular Music proudly presents Jokes and Jazz II, on Tuesday 02 May 2017 at 18:00. After a thrilling packed house left the audience begging for more, we could not resist to announce: The Jokes 'n Jazz series is back!   On May 2nd at the UKZN Centre for Jazz brings a new show which will feature some of the best comedians in the country anchored by music performances produced by Neil Gonsalves.

ON THE FUNNY:

Headliner: Jem Atkins After more than 5 years in the comedy and corporate entertainment industry, Jem Atkins has garnered a reputation as a highly talented Professional MC and Corporate Comedy Entertainer, and indeed one of the top comedy performers in Durban.

His performances are loaded with highenergy, intelligent observations, dotted with hilarious antics and realistic impressions. His sharp-witted humor makes for highly memorable audience interactions as he artfully skirts the line between funny and edgy whilst covering all range of topics, including marriage, divorce, love and dating, fatherhood, working in I.T., holidaying in India, South African movies, Eskom and much more.

He has toured Cape Town and Joburg and performed at various comedy festivals, where he has shared the comedy stage with the likes of John Vlismas, Rob Van Vuuren, Robby Collins, Chris Forest, Mel Miller, David Newton and others. He is well known on the Durban Comedy Circuit, having hosted, performed at, and often headlined, most Durban comedy venues, with the likes of Neville Pillay, Carvin Goldstone, Jeloshnee Naidoo, Dusty Rich, Gareth Woods and many others.

In 2012, he performed his highly successful debut oneman show – ‘The Single Dad’

In April, 2014, he performed the sequel ‘

Single Dad II’ , receiving excellent reviews!

Support Act: Vee Morton is a stage actor and Queen of the Durban Underground Comedy Circuit. While not strictly conforming to standards of 'appropriateness' she has earned respect amongst audiences and a place amongst Durban's finest comedians. Her tongue-in-cheek slant on romance, womanhood and aging will gracefully leave you with the comfort of knowing it's okay to laugh at ourselves.

Vanessa has worked with recognisable names (gratuitous name-dropping required) like Carvin Goldstone, Darren Maule, Masood Boomguard and Troy Tesla. She has appeared in shows at Westville Theatre Club, Sibaya Casino's iZulu Theatre and at the Soweto Theatre for the Savanah Newcomers Showcase which was aired on Vuzu AMP in 2016. In the same year she was filmed at the 'Kill or Die' segment of the Durban Summer Comedy Festival for DSTV Channel 122: Comedy Central.

Host: Troy Tesla is an international comedian and mastermind behind the "Jokes n Jazz" series. He hosts every episode with fresh material that instantly sparked a following. He is known for veering all types of audiences into an absurd comfort of laughter with his mature & provocative satirical take on domestic and global issues. He has been described as "the next Trevor Noah" because he is half Zimbabwean & half South African.

Tesla has awed audiences with some of the biggest names in Africa including John Vlismas, Loyiso Gola, Carl Joshua Ncube and was a five time opening act for Carvin H Goldstone's Best of Tour in 2016. He has appeared on popular platforms around the country including: Parkers Comedy & Jive, and the Durban Summer Comedy Festival which is due to be aired on Comedy Central.

In 2017 he collaborated & hosted several comedy series including Cocos Comedy Nights in association with international hotel chain Tsogo Sun. He also successfully launched the revered 'Jokes n Jazz' series running at the Centre for Jazz.

He has also MC'd and entertained private audiences as large as 2000. He is currently developing a TV show. www.facebook.com/troytesla  Socia Media: @troytesla
