The Centre for Jazz and Popular Music proudly presents Tshepo Fela on Wednesday 1 March 2017 at 18:00.

 

Tshepo will be performing for the first time in a public space tunes from his second album 'Mother tongue". The album is a celebration of the only language that he considers his home language, it is broad as much as it is universal. He calls this the language of music, expressed in his deep rooted jazz compositions with a touch of African influence.

 

The tour is to be fresh and inspiring to up and coming musicians and ear orgasm to jazz music lovers. This skilled vocalist has been working day and night as he is a perfectionist to produce the most beautiful work of art presented in forms of sounds and rhythm.

 

Tshepo Fela offers complex American inspired jazz progressions; accompanied by modern African melodies with vernacular dominated lyrics. His music is soothing to an untrained ear and a superb journey for a trained musical ear. His Liquid African Jazz is a quick path taking one from the past state of jazz to the current. jazz progressions and African vernacular influences from different cultures dipped in soulful melodies.

 

Tshepo Fela graduated at Tshwane University of Technology’s jazz music program and has already won many accolades including; ESP Young Legends top five finalists 2016, Gauteng Province Best jazz band in the Department of Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation’s Puisano Music Program (2013-2014) and in September 2013, his band was a finalist in battles of the bands competition, Raw Unplugged.

 

Tshepo Fela has also performed in most of the big South African jazz festivals like the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz, Moretele Heroes Tribute Concert, Moshito Music Exhibition, Grahamstown National Arts Festival as well as the South African State Theatre. He was also honored to be on the line-up of artists to perform at the South African Presidential Inauguration recently and as well many corporate events to list a few.

Join Tshepo Fela (mother tongue ) accompanied by Pumlani Mtiti (Sax), Sanele Phakathi (Piano), Dalisu Ndlazi (Bass) and Stanley Matlou (Drum) at The Centre for Jazz & Popular Music (CJPM), Level 2 Shepstone Building at UKZN Howard College Campus, Durban on Wednesday 1 March 2017. Doors open 17:30 and the music starts at 18:00 Tickets will be available at the door for R70 // R45 pensioners // R20 students.
