The Centre for Jazz and Popular Music proudly presents “Reflections” by Tsholofelo Mapisa on Thursday 26 November 2015 at 18:00.

Tsholofelo Mapisa is a young singer-songwriter from Johannesburg and Empangeni, respectively. She is currently based in Durban and is studying at the University of KwaZulu Natal, doing her honors degree in popular music. She is also part of a duo called MOE for Music Over Everything who ,among other things, have opened for SAMA nominated all female jazz band Heels Over Head at KZNSA Gallery .

Tsholofelo started playing the guitar at age 15 and began singing at about 18 and has since developed her sound. She is largely influenced by the alternative/urban r&b soundscape, hip hop, jazz, indie/folk, pop-soul etc while some of her sonic inspirations include Maxwell, Robert Glasper, Lianne La Havas ,Lauryn Hill, Adele, Miguel, Frank Ocean, the list goes on. Because of the vastness of this sound scape, Tsholo has worked tirelessly towards creating music just as broad, just as honest and just as authentic as her innermost being. For her, music is escapism, its passion, its magic , a form of teleportation & for most musicians alike it’s all she's ever had. Her music is a reflection of who she was ,who she is and who she is yet to become. It’s a way of life, one day she hopes the rest of the world will relate to.
