The Centre for Jazz and Popular Music is proud to present Bheki Khoza on Wednesday 22 October 2014 at 18:00.
Bheki is a left handed guitarist from Umlazi. He Studied under Jackie McLean and Larry Ridley (who has played with Wes Montgomery, Sonny Rollins and Horace Silver) at the University of Hartford, in USA.
Prior to studying in America, Bheki played with the African Jazz Pioneers. He composed the band hit “Sgaxa Mabhande”. He has performed with the late greats Sipho Gumede, Winston Mankuku Ngozi and Victor Ntoni to name a few. His other achievements include producing Simphiwe Dana’s album “One Love Movement” as well as being the music director of “Sophiatown, a documentary”.
Bheki has a lot of musical influences. His grandmother played the harp and harmonica; he was enriched with traditional Zulu music. Other influences include George Benson, Philip Tabane and Alan Khwela.
