The University of KwaZulu-Natal successfully hosted the Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) Women’s Seminar on Friday 25 August 2017. This seminar was live streamed so that comments and questions could be forwarded and addressed accordingly.  The seminar raised awareness around gaps in relation to service provision, and vulnerability of women on campus. The Seminar, was held for the first time at UKZN, and hosted in partnership with surrounding Institutions of higher learning with support from government and civil society.

The seminar comprised of four tracks as follows:

  1. GBV and Sexual Assault (Sexual Diversity and Human Rights)
  2. Youth Friendly Services (Clinic hours, female condoms, ARVs, PrEP)
  3. Women’s Health (Termination of pregnancy, Pap smear, Vaginal Examinations,  Sanitary pads, Hygiene in residences)
  4. Behavioral factors (Blessers, Substance abuse, multiple partners etc.)

The university community is still invited to submit comments and questions.

Any issues affecting women within the university that you think need attention, feel free to pose your question or make your comment, if you have a burning issue that you would like addressed by the Women’s Forums on your campus who are championing the cause of women empowerment.
