Females needed to complete a survey on menstrual cycles and pain
ATTENTION! Females
needed to complete a survey on menstrual cycles and pain. Both women WITH and WITHOUT menstrual pain are required.
The Epidemiology of Menstrual Pain in a
South African University Population (Ethics clearance no.:
RECIP398/17)
Despite the high number of women who
experience painful periods each month, menstrual pain (dysmenorrhoea) is still
often disregarded by health care practitioners, researchers, and even the women
themselves, who accept it as a “normal” part of the menstrual cycle. Yet, at
the same time, dysmenorrhoea has been grouped together with other severe
chronic pain syndromes, such as fibromyalgia (widespread muscle and bone pain),
where there is little understanding.
My colleagues and I are currently
conducting research in the field of sleep and pain, specific to women and
menstrual pain. Our current survey aims to determine the prevalence and
severity of dysmenorrhoea in a South African student and staff population. We
are also investigating other related factors.
In order to achieve this, we are inviting
you (the participant) to fill out a survey which contains questions including
your demographics, your menstrual cycle and menstrual pain.
This survey applies to:
- FEMALES ONLY, 18 years or older (There is no need to answer the survey if you
have gone, or are going, through menopause).
- Those who study/work at a Government-funded
university, such as UKZN.

continue to the survey:

Your participation in the survey will be
greatly appreciated and will remain anonymous, even to the
investigators. It should not take more than 20 minutes of your time.
Kind Regards
