HONOURS IN CULTURE, COMMUNICATION AND MEDIA STUDIES (CCMS) - APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN
Dear students
You've worked hard and now you want work. Well here's the bad news:
A primary degree is not enough! You need postgraduate qualifications to make it in the media industry.
As a 3rd-year media student we would like to introduce you to the Centre for Communication, Media and Society (http://ccms.ukzn.ac.za). We are located on the ground floor under MCS in MTB (next to the lifts). CCMS manages the Howard College post-graduate programme (Honours etc.).
We want to make contact with top performing 3rd year students so that we can provide them opportunities to interact with our graduate class, and the many activities in which they are involved. The idea is to help position you to enter the professional world or to continue with an Honours degree in 2017. Applications for Honours study in 2017 are currently open, and consistently top performing applicants can expect an early selection decision.
It is our experience that few 3rd-years are yet thinkingabout life after graduation. We suggest that advance planning would be beneficial, especially with regard to further studies.
Most important for job application is the compilation of a professional portfolio. It is the portfolio of work that grabs the attention of potential employers - much more so than a degree certificate. This body of practical work tells employers that you have professional expertise and technical skills. Amongst the outputs on which students are invited to work is our magazine, SUBtext
http://ccms.ukzn.ac.za/publications/sub-text.aspx
Other activities in which you may want to participate include attending Honours research seminars, meeting international visitors, and when the occasions arise, participating in industry events, getting involved in our community projects, and generally developing the kind of all-rounded CV that employers and Honours selection committees are looking for. This involvement also builds networks which graduates need to leverage in the real world. Furthermore, every year we select two or three Honours students to go on a fully-paid Sweden exchange programme.
So, please do pay us a visit.
Honours inquiries can be sent to Miss Ayanda Ntuli  Ntulia@ukzn.ac.za - Postgraduate (Honours) Administrator, School of Applied Human Sciences; Telephone +27-31-260-2505

Looking forward to hearing from you
