The Paulo Freire Project of the Centre for Adult Education, School of Education, is delighted to announce that eminent scholar Professor Lewis Gordon will be back on PMB campus. Gordon will be speaking on race, racism and higher education.

WHEN: Wednesday, 7th October, 14h00 - 15h30

WHERE: C3, Commerce Building, Golf Road campus, Pietermaritzburg

Gordon is a world-renowned Afro-Jewish philosopher, political thinker, educator, musician, and Professor of Philosophy and African American Studies with affiliation in El Instituto and the Center for Judaic Studies and Jewish Life at the University of Connecticut at Storrs. He is currently Nelson Mandela Distinguished Visiting Professor (for 2014 and 2015) at the University of Rhodes, and European Union Visiting Chair in Philosophy at Université Toulouse Jean Jaurès, France. Gordon has written extensively on race and racism, postcolonial phenomenology, Africana and black existentialism, and on the works and thought of Frantz Fanon and W.E.B. Du Bois.

Earlier this year, Gordon published What Fanon said.  In this work, using his own translations of the original French, he critically engages everything in Fanon from dialectics, ethics, existentialism, and humanism to philosophical anthropology, phenomenology, and political theory as well as psychiatry and psychoanalysis.
