3 VACANCIES FOR POST OF STUDENT ASSISTANTS

The Edgewood Campus Disability Unit is a support structure for students with disabilities.  This unit provides academic, teaching practice, residential and social support to students with disabilities.  In addition, education and awareness on disability related issues are provided to the wider university campus.  Applications are invited from students currently registered for a Masters or PhD degree at the University of KwaZulu-Natal Edgewood Campus for posts of student assistants at the disability unit.

 

DUTIES

1.  Administrative support to the Disability Support Officer.

2. Scanning, editing and reformatting of academic course packs and other related literature for students with visual and learning disabilities.

3.  Practical support for teaching practice.

4.  Support during registration and orientation.

5.  Academic, residential and social support.

6.  Provide support and assistance to programs hosted by the disability unit.

7.  Other duties that may be necessary for the further development and enhancement of disability support services on Edgewood Campus.

 

REQUIREMENTS

1.  Experience in working with students with disabilities in higher education.

2.  Must be registered full time for a Masters or PhD Degree at Edgewood Campus.

3.  Excellent administrative, communication and interpersonal skills.

4.  Excellent computer skills.

5.  Be diligent, well organised and must be able to work in a team.

6.  Must be prepared to multi task and manage work time effectively.

7.  Must have knowledge of assistive and optical devices and computer assisted software for students with disabilities.

8.  Must show accountability for time worked, be honest and maintain confidentiality at all times.
