EU Presentation: Postgraduate Scholarships and Research Programmes

Scholarship and funding opportunities to study, research or teach in Europe

 

The Delegation of the European Union to South Africa will be visiting the University of KwaZulu Natal, Westville Campus on 22 October 2014.

Representatives from the European Union (EU) will be promoting the EU scholarships and research programmes that provide opportunities for South Africans, students and academics to study, research or teach in Europe.

This is part of the EU –South Africa partnership and collaboration on Higher Education. Since the signing of the Joint Declaration on Education between the EU and Department of Higher Education and Training, the EU has provided funding support and availed scholarship programmes to South Africa. More than 500 South Africans have benefited from EU scholarships since 2011.

Students and staff are invited to attend a presentation on the available scholarships and research support programmes available for South Africans to study or research in Europe.  The presentation will be held at:

Venue: Lecture Theatre 1, GSB

Time: 09h00-13h00

The presentation will cover among others the following EU Funded programmes:

a)    Erasmus Mundus 

This programme provides students and staff with scholarships and mobility opportunities to study or research in a University in European for a period between 3 and 24 months. Scholarships cover tuition, return flight, medical insurance, and monthly stipend. Applications for scholarships are opening in November 2014 and successful students will leave for Europe in September 2015.

b)   Erasmus + programme

This programme presents opportunities for Higher Education Institutions, Staff (academic and general staff) and Students. There are opportunities for Capacity Building grants for HEIs and individuals, Joint Degree Programmes and Credit Mobility grants for Students.  Applications are now open and will be closing in February /March 2015.

c)    Jean Monet

The Jean Monnet programme aims at stimulating teaching, research and reflection in the field of European integration studies at the level of higher education institutions within and outside the European Community. It provides funding for among others Research Chairs, Centres of Excellence and  Research. Funded projects will be implemented from September 2015.

d)   Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions

This programme offers opportunities to promote innovative Training Networks, Individual Fellowships, Staff Exchange and Funds regional, national and international programmes to foster excellence in research training, mobility and career development.  Calls for proposals are out and closing between January and October 2015.
