Dear Science Student,

Let’s be honest completing a science degree is a huge task. Whether you are cruising through your modules or have hit a few speed bumps along the way, your unique story is exactly what we need to hear.

We, at CASSE, are conducting a study titled “Beyond Three Years: Identifying Factors Affecting Extended Time-To-Degree Among Undergraduate Science Students in a Higher Education Institution”. Our goal is to understand the real-life academic, financial, psychological, and institutional factors that influence how long it takes to graduate. By sharing your experiences, you are helping the university build better support systems and early warning tools for future UKZN students.

Why should you participate?

• Share your truth: Tell us about the modules that challenged you, your experience with support services like Supplemental Instruction (SI) or Academic Development Officers (ADOs), and how you've balanced life and education.
• Drive change: Your feedback will directly inform us on how the University supports students in their second, third, and later years of study—an important period that is often overlooked by traditional transition programs.
• Total Privacy: Your replies are strictly confidential and are collected under the ethical oversight of the Humanities and Social Sciences Research Ethics Committee (Protocol: HSSREC/00010424/2026).
