This technical support role involves designing, manufacturing, and constructing equipment and apparatus for undergraduate and postgraduate students and academic staff. The incumbent should be proficient in using various workshop machinery such as Lathes, Milling Machines, woodworking machines, sheet metal equipment, welding equipment, and various hand tools. Additionally, s/he will be responsible for servicing, maintaining, and calibrating equipment in the workshop and laboratories.
Furthermore, s/he will provide expertise and advice to both staff and students, including recommending appropriate materials for project manufacturing and assisting with sourcing quotations. In addition, knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act is crucial for the incumbent. Good Computer skills are necessary for the successful execution of the role.
The incumbent will report to the Principal Technician in Chemical Engineering.
Minimum Requirements:
- MatricplusNTC4andarelevantrecognizedTradequalificationinoneofthefollowing areas of expertise: (Fitting and Turning; Tool making or Millwright).
- 6yearsofTrade/Artisan experience
- Avalidunendorseddriver’s license.
Short-listedcandidateswillberequiredtoundergoaskillstestto assess:
- General technical skills and proven practical and technical work experience in a workshopenvironmentusingworkshopmachineryandvarioushandtools,withtheability to cut threads and work to fine tolerances on a lathe
- Metalfabricationexperienceusingmorethanonetypeof Welding
