The Classics Programme invites applications for a contract lecturer position in Semester 2, 2026. The successful candidate will teach the following modules: CCCV202 (Lost Civilisations), covering key concepts of historical, cultural, and archaeological aspects of unique civilisations (shared with other staff members);  CCCV306 (Ancient Egypt), covering key concepts including history, culture, and early literature concerning Ancient Egypt in translation (shared with other staff members) CCLT102 (Latin 1B), an introduction /intermediate to Latin grammar and vocabulary using Oxford Latin Course: Part 1 and 2  (1992). Responsibilities include preparing lecture content aligned with course booklets and prescribed textbooks; delivering five 45-minute lectures weekly for CCCV202/306 and CCLT102; setting, invigilating, and marking fortnightly vocabulary quizzes, termly class tests, and end-of-year examinations; and maintaining conscientious communication with colleagues while attending regular staff meetings.

Minimum Requirements:

  • A PhD in Classics, Greek or Latin, or significant progress towards completion of a PhD.
  • At least three years of study in Ancient Greek and Latin at an accredited university.
  • Previous teaching experience at a tertiary institution.

Prior experience teaching Latin and/or Ancient Greek would be a significant advantage.
