Applicants are invited to apply for the position of a lecturer in Music Theory, in the School of Arts at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. Music has established a reputation for innovative teaching and research. The successful applicant should have experience in the following areas: Western Classical Music Theory Teaching; setting appropriate assessment tasks; and the NQF Level Descriptors (especially Level 7). The applicant should have the potential to teach music analysis at 2nd and 3rd year level, with an emphasis on using Western theoretical concepts but using local musical examples (e.g. Mascandi, Isichathamiya, Itende, etc.); and assume relevant administrative duties in the programme.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

·       A Master’s degree in music or education;

·       Evidence of tertiary teaching experience in music theory at any level.

REMUNERATION: The remuneration offered will be in accordance with UKZN fixed-term rates of pay.
