AD HOC LECTURERS: PDFICJ PROGRAM -
HOWARD COLLEGE CAMPUS (FIRST and SECOND SEMESTER: 2026)
The Centre for Extended Legal Studies (CELS unit) in the School of Law, UKZN, offers a Postgraduate Diploma in Forensic Investigation and Criminal Justice (PDFICJ). This qualification provides working professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to specialise in the field of forensic investigative auditing – a specialised branch of forensic investigation, which uses intelligence gathering techniques, together with accounting, legal and communication skills, to investigate and provide evidence of crimes of a financial or commercial nature.

The CELS unit seeks to appoint ad hoc lecturers to teach all or part of the following modules:
1. Substantive Criminal Law (LAWS6SC) – semester 1;
2. Criminal Procedure and Evidence (LAWS6PE) – semester 1;
3. Financial Accounting and Auditing (LAWS6FI) – semester 1;
4. Forensic Investigative Accounting (LAWS6IA) – semester 2;
5. Forensic Investigation Techniques (LAWSFT) – semester 2;
6. Civil Remedies for Economic Crime (LAWS6CR) – semester 2;
7. Forensic Reporting (LAWS6FR) – full year.
Teaching will include the preparation and delivery of lectures for the sections assigned (TBC), the setting and marking of all related assessments, consultation with students, and associated administrative tasks. Lectures will be delivered online and lecturers will be required to make use of Zoom, as well as the university’s online learning platform (Moodle/Learn2026). Lectures will take place outside normal working hours (usually on weekday evenings 17h15-20h15 and some Saturday mornings)
The incumbents will report to the Director: CELS on the Howard College Campus, but will be required to work in close consultation with the PDFICJ Programme Manager.
Minimum Requirements:
• A South African undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline, depending on the module(s) concerned;
• A relevant Master’s degree;
• At least two years’ relevant teaching experience at university level.
Relevant work experience in legal, auditing, or investigative practice, as well as some experience with online teaching modalities (LEARN, online assessments, and Zoom consultations) will be advantageous
All candidates should demonstrate effective communication skills, and if invited to an interview, will be required to make a 10-minute MS PowerPoint presentation on a topic TBA.
Incumbents who are permanent UKZN staff members will need to comply with the University’s policy on private remunerative work.
