The Centre for Extended Legal Studies (CELS), being the Self-funded Teaching Programmes Unit of the School of Law, seeks to appoint TWO suitably qualified applicants as administrative assistants, on a one-year fixed-term contract for each of its two Postgraduate Diplomas – PDFICJ & PDIR.

The incumbent(s) will be required to provide administrative support to CELS in regard to all aspects of its academic programmes. The incumbent(s) must be proficient in English and have a high level of competency in word processing and spreadsheets, coupled with good interpersonal, communication, writing, and numeracy skills. The incumbent(s) must be able to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and work both independently and as a member of a team.

CELS’s programmes are offered on a part-time (after-hours) basis, so the incumbent might be required to work on Saturdays and after normal working hours from time to time.

The position is based on the Howard College Campus and requires office attendance, but, if circumstances necessitate it, the incumbent(s) might be required to work remotely (off-campus) for short periods.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• Matric, plus a one-year relevant tertiary qualification, preferably in office administration;

• Three years’ relevant working experience in a similar environment, which must include at least one year’s hands-on experience in module administration at UKZN, including the use of UKZN’s Student Mark Management System (SMS) and Moodle;

• The above working experience must also include at least one year's experience in programme administration within UKZN (ie, student selection, admissions, registration, etc), preferably at post-graduate level.

All applicants will be required to demonstrate effective communication skills.

Shortlisted candidates may be required to undergo a skills test.
