HIGHLIGHTS OF THE RECITAL
SAMUKELISIWE MBATHA
Mbira instrument from Zimbabwe- “Spirituality
and Storytelling”, this piece mainly evokes memories, reflection, and spiritual
depth. Mbira reminds us that storytelling is loud and can be sacred and deeply
healing. The tones and the sound it produces reflect memories, spirituality,
and culture.
PHUMZILE NSELE
Afro Healing song- composed by
Phumzile Nsele, a soulful and spiritual song meant to connect deeply with the
audience. She aims to create an atmosphere of emotional healing and reflection
through voice and rhythm.
KHANYISANI NGUBANE
Isicathamiya song- taking us back
to our roots and culture. The song reminds us of who we are, and it promotes
unity. The piece will be sung in an a acapella version with smoothly different
blended voices. The piece is inspired by Lady Smith Black Mambazo. “own

SANDISO NTULI
Dance Piece- “Breaking the Chains
Within” A powerful fusion of Breaking the Chains and the Struggle Within, this
piece explores resistance, collective healing, and the internal battles women
face under societal oppression. It merges contemporary African movements within
emotive storytelling to symbolize liberation from external and inner
constraints. Choreographed by Sandiso Ntuli.
BIOS OF THE PERFORMERS:
SAMUKELISIWE MBATHA
“Camkeeh” is an adept and passionate African Music artist, composer,
and aspiring music lecturer whose work is deeply rooted in the rich traditions
of Maskandi. She is influenced by renowned artists like Nozuko Nguqu and has
performed as a backing vocalist for Nguqu. She has shared the stage many times
with Baba Matshitshi Ngema. Her music aims to heal, uplift, and connect with
audiences soulfully. Camkeeh is dedicated to preserving and evolving African
Music Heritage.
PHUMZILE NSELE
Phumzile, born and raised in
Eshowe, is a dynamic artist with a deep passion for African Music and Dance.
Since her Primary School years, she has embraced leadership roles and grown
into a performer who captures the full attention of her audiences. She has
successfully performed alongside renowned artists such as Lily Faith, Baba
Ngema Matshitshi, and Nozuko Nguqu, celebrating each collaboration as a
success. Phumzile also travelled with the Ikusasa Lethu group to Pretoria,
where she confidently and artfully led one of the songs. Her recital reflects
her journey, creativity, and commitment to the power of music and dance in
identity and storytelling.
KHANYISANI NGUBANE
Khanyisani, well known as Lahman
from Marrianhill. Pinetown is highly skilled in African music genres such as
uMaskandi and Isicathamiya, as well as Gumboot dance. Khanyisani has performed
in his community events and at Howard College Theatre for Lunch Hour Concerts
and Recitals. He is also a talented vocalist and songwriter.
SANDISO NTULI
Sandiso is a 23-year-old Umlazi U
Section artist pursuing a BA in Music and Dramatic Art at the University of
KwaZulu-Natal, specializing in African Music and Dance. A composer, singer,
choreographer, vocal coach, and actor, he has won over 50 trophies and the Best
First-Year Student Award. Sandiso has collaborated with Ikusasa Lethu, Durban
Chamber Choir, Red Light Group, and Just for Joy Gospel Group and performed in
Imvunge the Musical. He also appeared in Uzalo, Sbongile, and The Dlaminis. His
Theatre credits include Hungry Earth, My Shadow Lives, Sizwe Banzi is Dead, and
The Call of Revolution.
