The Archbishop Denis E. Hurley Awards are dedicated to candidates from a previously-disadvantaged background enrolling for Honours degrees with a view to subsequent progression to pursue Masters and PhD studies.  This award is named after Archbishop Denis E. Hurley whose life, spirit and the accomplishments provided a benchmark for leadership, ethical vision, community cooperation and community development, across a broad sweep of the human and social sciences.

‘The Hurley Scholars’ will be meritorious academic performers.  Exceptional leadership qualities, an ethical vision for our society and involvement in community service are necessary criteria for selection.  All will be urged to commit to careers in community or University academic service.
