Please join us.

This group exhibition showcases the work of postgraduate students who are completing Honours in Fine Arts at the Centre for Visual Arts (CVA) in 2024. Postgraduate Diploma students will also be showing their work.

The title of this exhibition, Ukuhlangana kwezindlela, emerged from the realisation that the work of each artist evokes a journey of sorts. The themes of personal explorations of heritage, loss, family history, and cultural identity are intertwined in different ways in the works of Zungu, Ntshangase and Langa. Mfithi seeks to capture the movement of people in his drawings, moving through space and time in their day on unseen paths. Henning’s work records his movements in decaying and forgotten places, using media rooted in personal family history, resonating with the paintings of Zungu and Langa. The different paths travelled by these artists this year converge in this exhibition, Meeting of Paths.

The Honours programme involves creative practice in artmaking, and a written research paper on a topic that emerges from the creative process. This practise-led methodology recognises that knowledge exists in many forms, including the non-verbal, and is capable of igniting processes that extend artistic explorations into new territory. The Honours programme introduces students to research methods, in preparation for further study, and enhanced creative practice.
