My name is Thobile Penelope Sichela (213560178@stu.ukzn.ac.za), I am a Master of Leadership Studies student with the Graduate School of Business and Leadership at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (Westville Campus). You are invited to consider being a participant in the study that I'm conducting on the above topic. The study is expected to enroll 84 participants from the University of KwaZulu-Natal management, academic and professional management staff from various Colleges, Schools and Support Divisions. The study will use a random sampling technique. The expected duration of your participation is no longer than 10 minutes.
The objective of the study is the following:
- To examine the extent to which leaders and managers hold the required skills and qualities to manage the UKZN institution
- To identify the training and development required by leadership and management in this institution
- To identify the main barriers to leaders and managers in becoming better leaders
- To examine whether those in leadership and management positions have management or business background
- To determine whether the competencies in leadership and management are affected by demographics
- To investigate the leadership and management competency to technology leadership
This study is not funded by an organization /entity. The research will not pose any risks or discomfort that may warrant compensation or counselling
All participation in this research is voluntary and participants may withdraw participation at any point without any penalties. In the event of refusal/withdrawal of participation the participants will not incur penalty or loss of treatment or other benefit to which they are normally entitled. All information obtained and shared during the research will be strictly confidential and the researcher will be obliged to terminate participation should a participant disclose any confidential information.
There won’t be any costs that might be incurred by participants as a result of participation in the study. There are no incentives or reimbursements for participation in the study, participation is strictly voluntary.
The participants will be given code names to protect their real identities throughout the study and confidentiality will be strictly adhered to without any limit. All stored data will be kept in very safe place throughout the study and subsequently it will be destroyed after the study is concluded.
